The GESBIO team has travelled to the Poznań University of Life Sciences in Poland to continue strengthening international research networks and launch new initiatives that bring together education, biodiversity and inclusion.
This week, researchers from the Gesbio group (experts in education) met with teams from the University of Gävle (Sweden) and the host university in Poznań (both experts in biodiversity). We have been collaborating with Sweden for years, and for the past two years, the three institutions have been working together on the BioSolar project.

What have we achieved on this trip? 👇
🟢 New line of research (SES4BIO project):
Funded by @alternet_europe, the Social-Ecological Systems for Biodiversity Conservation (SES4BIO) project enables us to analyse primary school children’ connection with nature and their biodiversity literacy across a North-South European gradient: Poland, Sweden and Spain.
As part of this project, in this trip, we explore the transformed landscapes around and their biodiversity and began designing a questionnaire to assess how the adult population perceives the value of the biodiversity associated with these ecosystems.
🟢 Citizen science in Poznań’s classrooms:
We took the citizen science educational programme developed by the Gesbio group to a local school: we presented the project to the children and carried out the initial data collection (pre-test) with experimental and control groups.

We continue to show that environmental conservation, society and education go hand in hand, no matter the distance.
Our sincerest thanks to the university that has hosted us this week and to its wonderful researchers. Thank you also to the school that has opened its doors and welcomed us with open arms so that we can work together.
